There is no legal fee for your initial phone call or for your first meeting with Attorney Shute. The legal fee in most personal injury cases is called a “contingent fee.” This means that the legal fee is a certain percentage of the amount of money that you receive to compensate for your injury. Contingent fees allow people to hire an injury lawyer even if they could not afford to pay a lawyer by the hour. In most cases the legal fee is one-third (33 1/3 percent). The fee is paid at the end of the case out of the money you receive. In work-related injury cases and in medical negligence cases, sometimes called medical malpractice cases, the legal fee is set by Massachusetts law. Even in those cases you would only pay a fee out of money that we receive for your injury. I will explain all details and answer any questions you may have before you make your decision.
